Product releases in 2023

Everything Peerdom shipped in 2023: new features, app updates and improvements, with the date each one went live.

Synchronize Microsoft Entra ID subgroup members

Keep your Peerdom directory up to date with your Microsoft Entra ID directory. We’ve made improvements that now allow you to synchronize all peers in a group, including the peers in subgroups. Read the Microsoft Entra ID SSO documentation for more information.

Introducing custom fields for roles and groups

You now have the ability to add, edit, and translate extra fields to customize role and group descriptions according to your preferences. If you have public maps, you can also decide which fields should be visible or hidden to the public.

Set a contribution target for a role

Spot when roles are over- or understaffed. With the Contribution App, you can now set a role contribution target, allowing you to keep track of whether the contributions of your peers match the role expectations.

Discover Peerdom with map templates

When creating a new organization, you can now discover and use our pre-defined templates to map your company. Choose a template from the most popular organizational structures such as Holacracy, Sociocracy, or traditional, positional hierarchy to get started.

Faster map loading time

We went back to the core and cut the loading time for large maps in half! With the significantly reduced loading time, editing and navigating complex organizations is now more reactive and just plain faster.

New vocabulary options for “peers”

In the Map Settings, you can customize Peerdom vocabulary to fit your culture. We’ve added more alternative terms for peers: co-worker, person, member, friend.

Track Drafts App events in the Journal App

If you have both the Journal and the Drafts App activated, Journal entries now also show when changes have been made to visible draft maps.

Changes to your personal journal are instant

Your actions across Peerdom will now immediately show up in your personal peer Journal, helping you keep track of everything you’ve personally been involved in.

Pending network partners are on your map

You can now see which organizations you’ve invited to join your network. By turning on the Network app map layer, pending network organizations are drawn with stripes.

Clear visual separation between external roles/groups and network partners

You can map external role holders (e.g. freelancers) or groups (e.g. board of directors). These external roles and groups are now drawn on your map with a short connecting line, hugging them close to your organization. By contrast, network partners are drawn with longer connecting lines, a bit farther away.

Journal performance boosts help you speed read

We’ve significantly reduced the time it takes to load your journal history, making it simple to quickly catch up on activity across your organization.

Page images are better formatted

You can insert images into a Page by either adding an image card, or by directly embedding the image into markdown script in a text card. We’ve made sure that both ways to insert an image are properly formatted - making for beautiful looking pages.

Clearer network visualization

We’ve refined the design to help you spot your network partners more easily on the map. Network partners now appear larger and are connected by dashed lines, making them stand out from external roles and groups.

Simplified map exports

Introducing an improved map export feature! As a map owner, you can now export a simplified list of all roles on your live map, complete with group assignments, role holder names, and their contributions.

API: Update and delete roles or groups

Take control of your organization’s roles and groups with our Public API. You can now seamlessly update and delete existing roles and groups by providing their valid IDs. Make precise modifications to your map from outside of Peerdom.

API: Assign and unassign a role to a peer

With our Public API, you can now assign and unassign roles directly to peers. You even have the option to assign electable roles and set re-election dates, giving you more control over your organizational design.

Switch up your peer view

Get an overview of your colleagues on the map. In the context area, you can now switch from the compact view to the list view to see the names and contributions of your peers at a glance.

Add new entities with the right-click menu

You can now use the context menu to directly add new roles, groups or goals to the map. Simply right-click anywhere in the map to open the menu and add a new entity.

Select new color schemes

You can now use the new color picker to add color to your roles and groups. Select your new color schemes using our high-contrast color palette or select your own using the advanced color grid.

Set the global map layout

Share your perspective. Any changes you make to the map layout, not only affect you but also all of your peers. As a map Owner or Editor you determine how your organization is viewed by your peers.

Edit the page summary

You can now add, edit, or delete the page summary from within the page. Help your readers save time; with concise and engaging summaries, they’ll get the essence of the content at a glance.

Zoom in more intuitively

You can now zoom in and out of your map using either the new slider widget, mouse scroll wheel, or trackpad on your desktop device, and the pinch-to-zoom gesture on your mobile device. Zoom however it feels most natural to you.

Simply fly over your map. As a desktop user, you can click and drag to view every corner of the map. The same goes for mobile users; just tap and drag to view any role and any group at any level.

With our public API you can now assign a peer to an existing role on the map from outside of Peerdom. And if you have the Contributions App enabled, you can define the role contribution percentage while you are assigning a role holder.

API: Create roles and groups

With our Public API you can now generate a full role map for your organization from outside Peerdom. Or, use the API to add new roles and groups to your organization’s existing map. You could also write code that glues your other digital tools to Peerdom, automating map creation or editing. Note the API also allows for updating role and group descriptions, including purpose, responsibilities, and notes.

Configure the size of page thumbnails

Choose the size at which your page thumbnails get displayed in the Pages App. Simply use the size slider at the top of the screen to adjust the grid size.

Find additional peer information in seconds

The Peerdom search engine now returns results for information found in a peer’s profile. For example, if your organization added a field to the profile for dietary requirements, and you search “vegan”, the search engine will point you to profiles where the term appears, making the planning of your next team lunch a breeze.

Configure your map layout

See your organization in new perspectives. Now, you can see a simple preview of the different visual map layouts available to you when viewing your map as a collection of circles. The “View as” dropdown menu above the map shows you the different layout options. Select the one that visualizes your organizational model best.

Manage role changes and contributions on your own profile

Take control of your roles directly from your profile page. Anyone (except Guests) can now update their own role contributions or leave a role from their profile.

Introducing smoother map navigation

Be a smooth operator with changes that make your map explorations frictionless. We’ve improved the animation performance, so that you can navigate more smoothly between groups, roles, and zoom levels.

The page summary now includes authorship and creation details

Before opening a Page, you can click on its menu button to read and edit its summary. Inside the summary, you’ll now see additional file information including the creation date and the original author.

Visualize your big goals neatly

We believe in your ability to reach your most ambitious goals, so we made sure that your map can visualize large numbers properly. For example, if you want to sell 1’000’000’000 paper clips, we now shorten such large numbers so that it’s easily readable (1B paper clips).

Un-mirror roles within the role editor

Disconnect a role from mirrored roles directly from the role editor. This can be helpful if you want to add extra responsibilities to the Leader role of your research group but don’t necessarily want to add it to all other mirrored roles across the organization. Now you can un-mirror the research group Leader and future changes will no longer affect the other Leader roles.

Allow Guests to see the full picture

Share your map with invited Guests while keeping your data anonymized for public Visitors. If you’ve chosen to anonymize personal data for Visitors, Visitors will only see blurred profile images and unrecognizable names, whereas logged in Guests will see personal data. As an Owner or Editor, you can manage who sees what by modifying a peer’s access rights on the peer profile.

Hide or display your network connections on the fly

You can overlay additional information in your map by turning on map layers. We added the Network app as a map layer so you can hide or display your suppliers, partners, clients, affiliates, or sister organizations.

Make representative roles stand out more

By marking a role as a representative, the role becomes spherical instead of flat. In addition, representative roles are now automatically placed at the touchpoint of the parent group, making it even easier to spot them. This is useful for sociocratic organizations who set Leader and Delegate roles as representatives (double-linking), but can also be used in traditional hierarchies to highlight manager roles.

Introducing the Pages App

The Pages App allows you to document and share information with the whole team. Create formatted documents with text and images. It’s the perfect place to share important references (e.g. handbooks, policies, principles). Work on a page in private mode and publish to the team when ready.

New map layout: nest roles only

In the map layout settings you can change how you visualize your organization. Previously you could nest groups and roles or spread them out (not nested). Now there is a hybrid visual: unpack role groups, but leave the roles nested in the external most groups.

New vocabulary alternatives for “groups”

In the Map Settings, you can customize Peerdom vocabulary to fit your culture. We’ve added two commonly used terms for groups of roles: pods and bubbles.

API: Query Filtering and Contributions

Get even more data. You can now query peers, roles or groups (circles) to return custom field entries. What’s more, you can query, create, and update Contributions (if you have activated the App in the App Store).

API: Add, update, and delete peers

You can now modify your peer directory from outside of Peerdom! Use the API to add peers, update peer details, or to remove a peer from your Peerdom directory.

API: Identify mirrored roles

When reading a role description through the API, you can now determine if the role has been mirrored.

Custom fields redesigned on the peer profile

Want to add a little more personal information? You can add custom fields to the peer profile in the organization settings section “Custom fields”. Profile custom fields are now displayed in the profile header as information boxes.

Request an API key from organization settings page

If you’d like to connect your Peerdom data to other digital tools, request an API key through “API keys” section on the organization settings page.

Shortcut menu now available on the entire map!

Pro tip: You can right click anywhere on your map (and now, even outside your organization) to bring up a shortcut menu with quick actions relevant to your context.

A fresh organization settings panel

All important settings for your Peerdom organization can now be found in a single, easy-to-navigate settings page. Browse the settings or visit our support page to learn about how to configure Peerdom to fit your organization’s unique needs.

Highlighted search results

Search results are now highlighted in the context where they were found. Shave seconds off of each search, as your eyes are immediately drawn to the information that matters.

Support documentation is here!

The Peerdom Learning Center is now live and includes videos, product documentation and other resources to guide your explorations. Happy learning.

Snappier feedback

We’ve done some plumbing work, and for those of you using the Feedback App, you’ll see significant boost in Peerdom’s performance!

Unlimited free Guests

Leave no person unmapped! Add unlimited, free Guest accounts to your organization. Map all your external providers, partners, freelancers, or part-time employees who do not need Peerdom’s full feature set. Note that Guest accounts can only access the role map and have limited features.

A performance and security boost

After months of meticulous work behind the scenes, Peerdom developers successfully performed a major upgrade to our codebase, coupling it with several performance boosting enhancements. The Feedback and Journal Apps are now noticably faster, and our core product is now stronger than ever. Now Peerdom is on stable grounding for another year of new features and improvements!

A more intelligent search and cleaner results

When searching for several terms, you’ll now see additional relevant results. The results are also easier to read: search terms are made bold, and you can instantly see the result’s context (e.g. found your term within the Responsibilities of a Role).

Peerdom search now looks within role group descriptions. Results will appear for information inside responsibilities, notes, and more as defined at the group level.
